Is The Fifa 22 Ultimate Edition Worth Purchasing?

With a release date of October 1, we are not too far away from the release of Fifa 22. As with every year, many players will be asking the same question; is the Ultimate Edition worth pre-ordering? To help give you an idea of whether or not it is worth pre-ordering the Ultimate Edition this year, we have compared Fifa 22’s Ultimate Edition to Fifa 22’s Standard Edition. The first thing to mention is that the Fifa 22 Ultimate Edition will set you back £89.99, compared to £69.99 for the standard edition (or £59.99 on old-gen consoles).

Fifa 22 Standard Edition Pre-Order Bonuses:

  • Team Of The Week 1 Player Item (untradeable)
  • Kylian Mbappé Loan Item (for 5 FUT matches)
  • FUT Ambassador Loan Player Pick (Choose from Alaba, Foden or Son for 3 FUT matches)
  • Career Mode Homegrown Talent

Fifa 22 Ultimate Edition Pre-Order (before August 11) Bonuses:

  • Team Of The Week 1 Player Item (untradeable)
  • Kylian Mbappé Loan Item (for 5 FUT matches)
  • FUT Ambassador Loan Player Pick (Choose from Alaba, Foden or Son for 3 FUT matches)
  • Career Mode Homegrown Talent
  • FUT Heroes Player Item (untradeable)
  • Ones to Watch (OTW) Player Item (untradeable)
  • Up To 4 Days Early Access
  • Dual Entitlement
  • 4600 FIFA Points

First off, you can argue it is worth purchasing this edition literally just for the 4,600 Fifa Points. In Ultimate Team, 4,600 Fifa Points would normally cost you £31.99. With this being included in the Ultimate Edition (which costs an extra £20 than the Standard Edition), you are essentially getting £11.99 worth of Fifa Points for free as well as all the other benefits too. If you have played Fifa Ultimate Team before, you will know how much of a boost Fifa Points can give you at the start of the game. However, some Fifa players don’t particularly agree with the concept of Fifa Points and will not purchase any at all, and complete, what is commonly known as, a Road To Glory account.

So, as well as the Fifa Points, pre-ordering the Ultimate Edition before August 11 will also give you an untradeable FUT Heroes Player Item (on December 1). FUT Heroes are previous players that have proven to be fan-favourites in the world of football. Their cards are tied to a specific heroic moment in their career and will provide a green club link to any player in the same league as them as well as a normal nation link too. For example, as you can see below, Ole Gunnar Solskjær will be featured as a FUT Hero in Fifa 22. He will provide a green link to any player in the Premier League and an orange to link to any other Norwegian player. Being given a FUT Hero card is not only enjoyable, as it is a new, unique type of card to Ultimate team, they also boast a high rating, giving you a boost on the field.

Additionally, you will also receive an untradeable Ones To Watch (OTW) promo card too. OTW is the first promo of every Fifa, which includes players that have transferred across the summer transfer window. The Ones To Watch cards are live cards meaning that their ratings and stats can be upgraded. A OTW card is upgraded each time the player receives a performance-based special card (TOTW, MOTM etc). As mentioned, the players featured in the OTW promo is based on the summer transfer window and so far this window, there have been some major transfers already: Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane, Dayot Upamecano, Achraf Hakimi etc. With more transfers yet to take place, there is a high chance the OTW card you get will be of a high rating (that can always upgrade too).

Finally, the most underrated bonus of them all: 4 Days Early Access. If you pre-order Fifa 22 Ultimate Edition, you will be given access to the game on September 27 as opposed to October 1. Although fans will be of course be excited to get access to the game early, most undervalue how big of an advantage this gives players in-game. Being able to begin creating your Ultimate Team 4 days before release is huge. You can get a serious headstart of everyone else, giving you a massive boost ahead of the game’s standard release.

As you have probably gathered, most of the bonuses are heavily based around Fifa Ultimate Team. If you are an avid Fifa Ultimate Team player, then without a second thought, we believe the Fifa 22 Ultimate Edition is worth pre-ordering. The bonuses you receive are bound to give you a huge advantage in this game-mode, particularly over those who purchase the Standard Edition. However, if you are not planning on playing Fifa Ultimate Team, then we don’t believe it would be worth pre-ordering the Ultimate Edition. The 4 Days Early Access would be a nice little bonus, however, it is personal preference for if you want to spend an extra £20 for this.
